Lesley Molseed, sometimes known as Lesley Susan Anderson, was a British schoolgirl who vanished on October 5, 1975, not far from Rochdale. She was born in Manchester on August 14, 1964.

Lesley shared a home with her three siblings, stepfather Danny, and mother April. She had a congenital ailment that includes heart issues. She was underweight and had a lower mental ability for her age despite having open heart surgery when she was just three years old. How did Lesley Molseed fare?

On October 5, 1975, Lesley was told to go grocery shopping for her mother. When she failed to come home, her mother filed a missing person’s report. A few days later, at an interstate rest area near West Yorkshire, the authorities discovered her death.

She had twelve stab wounds in her upper shoulders and back from sexual assault. Her heart was wounded by one of the wounds. A local tax clerk with mental health issues named Stefan Kiszko was detained by police on December 21, 1975. After confessing to the crime during an investigation, he was wrongfully convicted. He received a life sentence at Leeds Crown Court in July 1976.

In order to secure assistance in establishing her son’s innocence, his mother contacted the human rights organization Justice in 1984. The matter was taken over by attorney Campbell Malone, and it was reopened in 1992.

After it was established that Kiszko did not kill Lesley, he was released from custody in April 1994. In November 2006, fourteen years after Kiszko’s release, authorities detained comic book merchant Ronald Castree.

He had previously been detained for a sex offence in October 2005, but no charges were filed. Castree’s DNA, however, matched the sample that was discovered on Lesley’s body in 1975. He was found guilty and given a life sentence on November 12, 2007.
