Life has a way of throwing unexpected challenges our way, even for well-known television personalities like Frank Fritz. As a familiar face on the popular show “American Pickers,” Frank’s life took a tragic turn due to personal struggles and turmoil.
A Rollercoaster Relationship
Frank’s story begins with his ex-partner, Diann Bankson. Their relationship had its fair share of ups and downs, but the impact they had on each other’s lives was undeniable. Sadly, Frank’s turbulent divorce took a toll on his well-being, leading to alcoholism, unemployment, and health risks.

Frank first met Diann when he was just 25 years old. They had an on-and-off relationship before finally getting engaged in 2017. The couple even bought an Iowa farmhouse together in 2018 and moved in a year later. However, their relationship took a sour turn when Bankson claimed to have caught Frank cheating on her in November of that same year.
Despite the betrayal, Frank still wanted to marry Diann. He had even bought a house and an expensive ring. Unfortunately, he soon discovered that Diann had been seeing someone else for the past two and a half years. It was a devastating blow for Frank, emotionally and financially.
Health Struggles and Uncertain Return
Heartbroken and devastated, Frank turned to alcohol as a way to cope with his broken heart. He admitted to drowning his sorrows and losing a significant amount of weight in the process. Recognizing that he needed to make a change, he decided to focus on quitting drinking.
Sadly, his personal struggles also affected his professional life. After his divorce, Frank faced setbacks at work and eventually lost his hosting role on “American Pickers” in March 2020.
Frank’s health issues further complicated his journey. He underwent back surgery, which caused him to be absent from the show. Although he expressed his desire to return once fully healed, there are currently no plans for Frank to resume his role as a host on “American Pickers,” despite his ten years of contribution to the show.
The Road to Recovery
While Frank has faced numerous setbacks in his personal and professional life, his recent health struggles have been particularly challenging. He suffered a stroke and was hospitalized on July 4, 2022. Thankfully, his condition has shown signs of improvement, and he is making progress every day, according to his father.
However, the road to recovery has not been easy. Due to his ongoing rehabilitation needs, Frank had to be placed under guardianship and sent to a nursing home after leaving the hospital. A longtime friend was appointed as his guardian, with a bank managing his finances as his conservator.
Struggles with Decision Making and Care
Recent documents reveal that Frank’s condition is more severe than previously thought. He is currently unable to make important decisions regarding his finances and overall well-being. His guardian and conservator have taken up the responsibility of ensuring his care, managing his payments, medical needs, and transportation for appointments and activities.
