Two-year-old twins, a boy and a girl, tragically lost their lives by drowning. It was reported that they were able to get out of the house through an open door, which was allegedly left open by their great-grandmother who suffers from Alzheimer’s.

Jenny Callazzo, the mother of Locklyn and Loreli, an 18-year-old brother and sister, discovered her children unconscious in the murky water of their family’s pool at their home in Oklahoma City. Tragically, despite efforts to save them, both siblings were pronounced dead a few hours later.

Callazzo is a stay-at-home mother who runs a boutique and has six children. Her husband and grandmother also reside in their family home. Aerial footage of the home revealed a pool filled with dark green water, believed to be caused by thick algae. Neighbors recall seeing the distraught mother at the back of an EMS vehicle while emergency workers attempted to revive her children.

Just a few days before the tragedy, the mother shared a photo on social media of her twins playing outside, captioning it with the words “just want to play outside.”

The police are currently investigating the tragic incident, but they have ruled out any foul play, as reported by the Daily Mail. The family of the Callazzo’s has started a GoFundMe page to assist with expenses. The statement reads, “These beautiful babies were taken from us too soon. Anything you can give to help with expenses would be greatly appreciated. We appreciate everyone’s love and support.”

Experts are cautioning parents of the potential risks associated with having a pool when young children are present. Laura Gamino, an injury prevention coordinator for trauma at OU Health, warns that children are naturally drawn to water and toddlers lack the necessary skills to help themselves out of water. Gamino stresses that drowning can occur suddenly and silently.

Gamino emphasizes that children may not necessarily scream for help if they are struggling in the water, as their mouths may be full of water. She explains that drowning is a silent occurrence, and this is one of the most frightening aspects of it.

To prevent such tragedies from happening, Gamino advises parents to build fences that are at least 4-feet-high around their pools. Additionally, she recommends that the door handles be out of reach for children.
