A collision between two buses, including a Blue Mountains Explorer, occurred during their school run at Sun Valley Road on the Great Western Highway around 4:15 pm, resulting in injuries to several children. Paramedics from NSW Ambulance were dispatched to the scene.

Authorities have confirmed that six children received treatment from paramedics at the scene and are currently in stable condition, with injuries primarily consisting of bruises and head knocks. Both bus drivers were transported to the hospital, with one suffering from a suspected fractured shoulder.

The collision has been a harrowing experience for the students, parents, and staff of Penrith Anglican College and another nearby Catholic college. Distressing images from the scene depicted shattered windscreens, and traumatized and anxious children receiving treatment for their injuries. While some received treatment on the buses, most were treated on the street.

Police are currently investigating the cause of the accident, and it remains unknown why the two buses collided. Several witnesses have been interviewed as part of the investigation. To manage the situation, officers closed the highway in both directions at Warrimoo and were redirecting traffic.

While the westbound lanes reopened at around 6 pm, all eastbound lanes remained closed. Drivers were advised to avoid the area if possible, and those already in the vicinity were instructed to follow the directions of the emergency crews at the scene.
