Passengers on an intercity train travelling from Bregenz to Vienna in Austria were reportedly left feeling “completely shocked” and “really upset” when a recording of a speech by Adolf Hitler was played over the train’s speaker system instead of the usual announcements.

The recording also included a crowd shouting “Heil Hitler” and “Sieg Heil.” The operator of the train confirmed that there had been multiple similar incidents in recent days.

Green Party MP David Stoegmueller confirmed that the Nazi leader’s speech was played shortly before the train, an OEBB Railjet 661, reached Vienna.

According to Green Party MP David Stoegmueller, the Hitler speech played on the Austrian train lasted for about 30 seconds and was followed by the phrase “Sieg Heil.” He reported that the train staff were unable to stop the recording and were unable to make their own announcements.

One crew member was said to be upset by the incident. Austrian Railways (OEBB) issued a statement distancing themselves from the content and reported the matter to the police, suspecting that the announcements were made by individuals directly on the train via intercoms. Two people have been complained against regarding the incident.

Stoegmueller reported receiving an email from a passenger who was travelling with a concentration camp survivor, who was left in tears.

Another passenger reportedly commented that in other countries, technical problems are related to air conditioning, while in Austria, it seems to involve Hitler. Hitler was born in Austria and moved to Germany as a young man in 1913.
