Robert Irwin, the son of the late Steve Irwin, is carrying on his father’s legacy and his commitment to protecting Australia’s biodiversity and its varied species. But the similarities go beyond their shared passion. Young Robert recently had an encounter similar to his father’s, and he captured it on camera.
Like his late father, Robert Irwin has not only inherited his appearance but also his traits and work choices. Recently, he shared another eerie connection between himself and his dad on Instagram, something he could have done without.
On Thursday, young Robert uploaded old footage of his father being bitten by a python snake. In a twist of fate, Robert posted a video of himself handling the same snake and suffering multiple bites on his nose and eyebrow.
“Déjà vu. Dad and me getting bitten by the same species of snake (carpet python) decades apart,” Robert wrote in the caption for the video. “I found this python on the side of a road, but as you can see, sometimes snake rescues don’t quite go to plan 😂.”
Both men, passionate animal lovers, bravely accepted the bites. With the same composure as his father, Robert handled the rescue before attending to his wounds. “I got a little too close, so he gave me a bite. They’ve got extremely sharp teeth like little needles.”
The Irwin family, consisting of Steve Irwin’s wife, Terri Irwin, and their children, Robert and Bindi Irwin, continue to carry on Steve’s legacy and work with wildlife conservation at the Australia Zoo.
Steve Irwin’s tragic death in 2006 at the age of 44 deeply impacted his young son Robert, who was only 2 years old at the time. Despite this heartbreaking loss, Robert remains determined to honor his father’s memory and continue his important work.
In September last year, on the anniversary of his father’s death and Father’s Day in Australia, Robert shared a heartfelt post, saying, “It’s Father’s Day today in Australia, and I am sending my love to those who are missing their dad today. I cherish all the good times with my dad and feel grateful to be able to keep his memory and legacy alive ❤️.”
Robert Irwin has grown up to be a remarkable young man, much like his late father.
