Randy Travis returns to sing ”Amazing Grace”—3 years after his massive stroke

Randy Travis is an incredibly talented country music artist known for his unique singing voice. Despite suffering from a stroke in the past, nothing could stop him from delivering a beautiful rendition of “Amazing Grace” as a tribute to the late George Jones.

Travis took the stage at the Grand Ole Opry with the backdrop of soft blue and purple lights. During his performance, he paid homage to George Jones, a fellow country music legend. Joining him on stage were his peers Alan Jackson, Vince Gill, and Travis Tritt, making it a memorable collaboration.

A Miraculous Recovery

Travis’ journey to the stage wasn’t an easy one. In July 2013, he suffered a debilitating stroke caused by complications from viral cardiomyopathy. This led to brain surgery, and he eventually fell into a coma. The doctors had little hope for his survival, giving him a mere 1 or 2 percent chance.

Mary Davis Travis, Randy’s wife, faced an incredibly difficult decision regarding his life support. While the doctors suggested turning off the machines, Mary refused to give up. Believing in her husband’s fighting spirit, she chose to keep him on life support, praying for a miracle.

Against All Odds

Mary’s unwavering faith and determination paid off. Despite being in a comatose state and surrounded by wires, Randy miraculously woke up from his coma. Mary’s prayers were answered. Randy began the long road to recovery, all while Mary never gave up on him.

“We’re blessed. We’re happy to be where we are,” Mary expressed. “We don’t know what God has in store for us at the end of this recovery. Right now, we’re just thankful to be where we are, and we’re singing a different song. We’re happy to serve a purpose wherever there is a purpose for us to serve. Of course, one day he would love to be back up on that stage. Right now, we’re just enjoying life, and are very blessed to be where we are.”
