At 78 years old, Brenda Lee, also known as Little Miss Dynamite, has achieved a remarkable feat. Her iconic Christmas song, “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree,” has reached the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, 65 years after its release.
For years, Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas is You” has dominated the holiday charts. However, this year, Brenda Lee’s festive tune has claimed the coveted position.
Back in 1958, when Brenda was just 13 years old, she recorded this timeless classic. To commemorate the song’s 65th anniversary, she recently released its first-ever music video, starring Tanya Tucker and Trisha Yearwood. Brenda will also be making an appearance on NBC’s Christmas at the Opry.
Earning the #1 spot on the Billboard charts, “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” has joined the ranks of the most beloved holiday songs. This accomplishment makes it only the third Christmas song to achieve such a feat.
What’s even more impressive is that Brenda Lee has broken multiple records with this achievement. Her song holds the record for the longest wait between release and reaching number 1. Additionally, she now has the longest span between an artist’s number 1 hits. At nearly 80 years old, Brenda has become the oldest person to reach the top of the Billboard chart.
