The pop artist told Zane Lowe, “I just started leaning into it, I was like, ‘Well, it’s happening, so what am I going to do about it?’”

Kesha has been outspoken about how intensely she has felt the sense of one’s brain tricking them during times of anxiety.

The singer-songwriter claimed in a recent interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe that she had experienced such severe anxiety that she mistakenly thought she was having a “psychotic break,” adding that since then, she has resorted to “spirituality” in order to find relief.

The 36-year-old singer Kesha claimed, “I went through this crazy psychedelic spiritual experience in the middle of the anxiety…it was pure anxiety.” “My head felt like it may be going through a psychotic break or something, I thought. However, as soon as I just began to lean into it, I thought, “Well, it’s happening, so what am I going to do about it?

As she put it, “I had this full psychedelic kind of trip sober, and that’s what ‘Eat the Acid’ is written about.” The incident served as the inspiration for a song on her new album Gag Order.

But after that, I just began to lean into… I’m a triple Pisces, and I enjoy bizarre, mysterious, mystical, and paranormal things,” Kesha stated. “So, following this incident, I fell down a huge rabbit hole that consists solely of the paranormal as well as other spiritual practices and things that people believe in. We seem to be discussing the same issue, so I’m simply attempting to read about it.

The “Tik Tok” performer’s most personal song to date, Gag Order, was only released last week. On it, she speaks about her mental health and previous relationships. She also seems to make references to her current legal conflict with her former colleague Lukasz “Dr. Luke” Gottwald throughout the album.

The producer was first sued by Kesha for sexual, emotional, and physical assault in 2014; the same year, he countersued. A court rejected her allegations in 2016, but after several appeals, his defamation lawsuit against her is scheduled to go to trial this summer.

The “Praying” singer has been sighted out and about with movie producer Riccardo Maddalosso since late last year, but in another portion of the Apple Music interview, she spoke about finding it hard to trust love relationships.

“I am fortunate to have so many individuals in my life who I can trust completely. However, I find it more difficult to totally trust in intimate situations, said Kesha. “I’ll be open and honest with you. It’s something I work on, so yes. I continually strive to improve myself because I want to be happy on a selfish level.

She continued by describing “Happy,” an emotive song by Gag Order whose lyrics speak of the singer’s quest for peace: “I simply want to be happy and let go, that’s all. I want freedom. I want to have faith in the course of events, the cosmos, and everything else.

And I do believe that I cannot continue to be my innocent self. Therefore, there is a component of needing to mature, the Grammy nominee said. And I think that this album really captures the period in which I thought, “OK, I have to deal with some s—; I just need to go through it, and it’s going to be incredibly unpleasant. You can hear it all on the record, and I think it has really helped me develop as a woman.

According to Kesha, the issues on the new album show how she has evolved since penning the early songs that helped establish her career. She described how she went through several phases of emotions that she had never previously allowed herself to experience. “I’m the girl who wrote ‘We R Who We R,’ ‘Love yourself, OK, ‘Tik Tok,’ we’re having fun, and ‘Warrior,’ I’m such a warrior. And I did think, “F— me, youth is wasted on the young,” at that point in time.

Gag Order is out today, and the whole interview will be made accessible on Apple Music on Thursday.
