Janelle James, a television personality, has explained why she keeps her personal affairs relatively secret. She keeps her life under wraps, including her age, so it is unclear if she is married.

Despite keeping some aspects of her life private, Janelle James has previously spoken about her ex-husband, including information on one of her children, while withholding information about the other.

She has two children and once admitted to her kids what kind of parent she is. She also revealed the circumstances surrounding her divorce and expressed a desire to keep her family out of the public eye.

James is a producer, writer, and actress. She is most known as a comedian who splits her time between New York and Los Angeles, though. She may be seen on “Black Monday” on Showtime and “The Comedy Lineup” on Netflix.

The St. Thomas, Virgin Islands native has performed on tour with David Cross, Chris Rock, and Amy Schumer. She co-stars as Ava Coleman with Quinta Brunson, Lisa Ann Walter, Sheryl Lee Ralph, and Tyler James Williams in the acclaimed television series “Abbott Elementary.”

‘Abbott Elementary’ Star Janelle James receives a second Emmy nomination.

Janelle James has received praise from critics for her performance as Coleman in “Abbott Elementary”. She has received her second Emmy nomination, despite the fact that this is her breakthrough performance as an actress. In the popular ABC workplace comedy show, she plays an awkward yet confident elementary school principle.

After performing as a stand-up comedian all across the country for many years, the part came up. James acknowledged that her Emmy nomination for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy still has a big effect on her in an interview from July:

“You kind of start getting ready for the next Emmys after the past Emmys. However, it’s still a big issue.

Being a mother of two, Janelle James values her family’s privacy.

While living in Champaign, Illinois, James happened onto an open mic night in 2011, which marked the beginning of her Hollywood career. She had formerly resided in New York. Previously admitting she was “being a mom” when she first joined the first stand-up mic night, the rising star and mother of two sons made this admission.

In an interview in April 2023, when asked how she ended up in Illinois, James responded firmly, “I don’t want to,” and laughed. That’s because, other from a few stories in her stand-up, she keeps her personal life quiet. She explained why it is so:

“I am protecting everyone around me as well since I am reluctantly famous. My family as a whole is quite private. I’m not sure how feasible it is, but if it’s at all possible, I’d prefer to keep some of myself out of this machine.

Janelle James Refuses to Share Her Age and Discusses Her Former Husband and Children

With more than 200k followers, James’ Instagram account primarily features updates on her work projects and images of herself and her accomplishments. She is now well-known as a result of her time on “Abbott Elementary,” but she dislikes the attention that comes with being a famous person.

She would instead concentrate on her craft and abilities, which she has done her entire life. The Virgin Islands’ St. Thomas is where the Hollywood star was raised before moving to Los Angeles. She started working on her father’s food truck when she was seven years old.

After graduating from the Fashion Institute of Technology, she fell in love, got married, and established a family. According to a 2023 interview, James and her then-husband welcomed two sons, the oldest of whom is 20. She has, however, chosen not to reveal her age as well, stating:

I’m an adult. My son is 20 years old. I don’t feel embarrassed by my age or anything of the sort. But for women, it gives them an idea of who you are in their heads — and everyone knows this but pretends they don’t.”

People in the entertainment industry apparently think James is a “mom comic” when they realize she is a parent of two, but she does not want it to be her specialty. Sadly, the actress and her spouse divorced, though she gave no explanation.

The family moved to Illinois when her ex-husband, a teacher who had obtained a position in the Midwest, did so. When the actress committed herself to being a loving mother and focused on her sons, everything started to fall apart. I was sort of drifting in space, not knowing what I was doing with myself, she admitted. All of my buddies had left. There, my relationship broke down.
