He Knew He Would Lose Her To Cancer, But He Gave His Wife Her Dream Wedding

After a tough and long fight against breast cancer, Laurin Long Bank tragically passed away just a few months after her dream wedding. Laurin, who was only 26 when she was diagnosed with breast cancer, refused to let the disease define her or change her plans. She met Michael Bank, who quickly became the love of her life, and together they decided to proceed with their wedding as planned.

On March 24, 2018, Michael and Laurin said their vows in a beautiful ceremony surrounded by their family and friends. The wedding was adorned with white, black, and red polka dots, symbolizing Laurin’s courageous battle against cancer. Her friends also showed their support by wearing polka dots every Wednesday to honor Laurin and other survivors of stage IV cancer. It was a day filled with love and joy, as Laurin embraced the wedding of her dreams, even though she knew she didn’t have much time left.

Wedding

The couple’s wedding was a bittersweet occasion. While they were surrounded by their loved ones, there were a few important people missing. Laurin’s parents had both lost their lives to cancer before she even turned 20. However, her brother walked her down the aisle, symbolizing the strength of their bond and the shared experience of loss.

Michael and Laurin’s vows were incredibly meaningful. They understood that when they promised to stand by each other “in sickness and in health,” it was more likely to be in sickness. Laurin fought bravely and felt relatively well in the months following the wedding. She even participated in a clinical trial in the hopes of gaining more time. Sadly, she made the decision to stop treatment just two weeks before she passed away.

They had hoped for a few more good months together, but that wasn’t meant to be. Fortunately, Laurin remained relatively comfortable until the end. On the night of October 21, 2018, at the age of 30, Laurin took her last breath. Her loss was felt deeply by her friends, family, and the many lives she had touched during her journey.

In a heartfelt farewell on Laurin’s Facebook page, Michael shared his grief and gratitude for having been part of her life. He lovingly described how he carried her to bed and held her hand as she peacefully passed away.

Laurin didn’t want to be remembered as someone who “lost her battle” with cancer. She hoped that people would celebrate her strength and resilience in fighting the illness. Her untimely death is a tremendous loss, but her love and spirit will continue to inspire many.
