Carly Simon and her sisters

Carly Simon, the legendary singer known for her hits in the 1960s and 1970s, is currently facing one of the toughest crises in her life. In just one week, she tragically lost both of her sisters to cancer.

According to Fox News Digital, Carly’s representative confirmed the devastating news. Her sisters, Lucy Simon and Joanna Simon, both had careers in the music industry. Lucy, a Broadway composer known for the musicals “The Secret Garden” and “Doctor Zhivago,” passed away at the age of 82 after battling stage 4 breast cancer. Joanna, a former opera singer and journalist, died in Manhattan at the age of 86 after being diagnosed with thyroid cancer.

Carly expressed her profound sorrow in a statement, saying, “I am filled with sorrow to speak about the passing of Joanna and Lucy Simon. Their loss will be long and haunting. As sad as this day is, it’s impossible to mourn them without celebrating their incredible lives that they lived.”

Lucy Simon, Carly’s well-known sister, received a Tony nomination for her work on “The Secret Garden.” It all started when Carly and Lucy, as teenagers, taught themselves three chords on the guitar and performed folk music at a local bar called “The Moors” in Provincetown, MA. The duo, known as “The Simon Sisters,” went on to release three albums in the 1960s. Lucy later married David Levine and together they produced two Grammy-winning children’s albums.

Joanna Simon, on the other hand, had a successful career as a mezzo-soprano opera singer. She performed with prestigious orchestras such as the New York Philharmonic, the Vienna Philharmonic, and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. After retiring from opera, Joanna worked as a real estate broker. She was married to Gerald Walker, an editor for The New York Times Magazine, until his passing in 2004.

Carly and her sisters grew up in a remarkable family. Their father, Richard Simon, co-founded the Simon & Schuster publishing company, while their mother, Andrea, was a civil rights activist and singer. Together, the three sisters shared a deep bond and cherished each other’s memories.

Carly’s loss is undoubtedly heartbreaking and traumatic. It is a consolation, however, that both of her sisters lived long and fulfilling lives. Let us send our heartfelt condolences and prayers to Carly during this difficult time.
