Britney Spears, the Princess of Pop, recently released her memoir, “The Woman in Me,” where she candidly shares her experiences, including a memorable encounter with her ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake backstage at the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards. This encounter took place during a challenging time for Spears, and she vividly remembers her nerves getting the best of her.

Spears recalls feeling overwhelmed when she ran into Timberlake, as it had been a while since they had seen each other. While Timberlake was at the peak of his career and exuded confidence, she was dealing with her own insecurities. She writes, “I was having a panic attack. I hadn’t rehearsed enough. I hated the way I looked. I knew it was going to be bad.”

During this period, Spears was set to perform her song “Gimme More” at the awards show. However, behind the scenes, everything seemed to be going wrong. There were problems with her costume and hair extensions, she had a sleepless night, and she felt dizzy. Spears had also recently given birth to her second child within two years, yet she was facing criticism for not having a perfect physique. All of these factors added to her apprehension about taking the stage.

Nevertheless, Spears summoned the courage to go through with the performance, even though critics later panned her appearance, choreography, and lip-synching. Reflecting on that moment, she admits, “I went out there and did the best I could at that moment in time, which – yes, granted – was far from my best at other times. I could see myself on video throughout the auditorium while I performed; it was like looking at myself in a fun-house mirror.”

Adding insult to injury, Timberlake had a successful night, winning awards and delivering a captivating performance with other artists. Spears recounts how he seemed to effortlessly glide down the runway, flirting with girls in the audience.

In her memoir, Spears also addresses long-standing rumors about her relationship with Timberlake. She reveals that she became pregnant during their time together but had an abortion because Timberlake “didn’t want to be a father.” She also confirms that she cheated on him with their mutual choreographer, Wade Robson, only after Timberlake had allegedly been unfaithful multiple times.

The release of “The Woman in Me” has been met with tremendous interest, propelling the book to the top of Amazon’s bestsellers list even before its official release date.
