Officials from the pageant criticized the man’s actions and promised to take “adequate legal measures.”

Second place wasn’t good enough for one contestant’s hubby.

The spouse of the runner-up disrupted the Miss Gay Mato Grosso 2023 contest in Brazil on Saturday during the crowning ceremony.

The two frontrunners of the pageant, Miss Várzea Grande Emannuelly Belini and Miss Cuiabá Nathally Becker, could be seen holding hands on stage as they awaited the announcement of the winner in a video released on social media and shown on local news channel Globo.

According to TMZ, Becker’s husband got up on stage as soon as the winner was declared and moved to put the crown on Bellini’s head. He then took the crown away and threw it on the ground.

Before coming back to grab the crown and toss it to the floor, the man attempted to convince Becker to leave the stage with him. Screams from several spectators could be heard, and security eventually intervened to remove him from the stage.

On Monday, pageant organizers posted a statement criticizing what occurred on Instagram.

“We vehemently condemn the incident that occurred at the time of the crowning of the elected Miss, when the partner of Miss Cuiabá…invaded the stage and aggressively destroyed the crown,” pageant organizers stated in a message translated from Portuguese.

Officials said, “We would like to advise you that our legal team has been contacted and will take the necessary legal actions.

Since the elected Miss was not accountable for the opinions of outside parties, the officials expressed sympathy for both her and the Miss who came in second.

A similar event happened in 2021 when Pushpika De Silva, a pageant queen who won the title of “Mrs. Sri Lanka,” said she was hurt after a previous winner forcibly pulled her crown from her head onstage.

The incident was caught on camera during the ceremony’s televised broadcast, which showed Pushpika De Silva being crowned Mrs. Sri Lanka 2020 before Caroline Jurie, the 2019 pageant winner, took her place. She incorrectly stated De Silva was divorced, in violation of the pageant’s regulations, although De Silva later clarified that she was separated in a Facebook post.

Jurie was detained in connection with the incident but later released on bail.
