Over the years, there have been numerous accounts of hidden possessions being discovered. One such fascinating story is that of a man who embarked on a journey to find his family’s long-lost treasures. These treasures had been hidden away by his father before they were forced to leave their home country.

As a young boy, Schlattner’s father had taught him the art of finding these hidden objects. However, retrieving them proved to be quite a challenge. After all, it had been seventy years since they were stowed away, and no one knew for sure if they had survived the test of time. There was skepticism in Schlattner’s mind as he embarked on this mission. Would he be able to recover the treasures of his family’s past?

But fortune smiled upon him. As Schlattner returned to his childhood home, he made his way to the attic. Amidst the jumble of memories, he searched for a small piece of string that dangled from one of the wooden panels. As he gently tugged on it, the shelves magically unfolded, revealing an entire collection of incredibly preserved possessions from decades gone by.

Over the years, Schlattner had harbored fears that these mementos might be destroyed, as the roof of the house had undergone multiple repairs. But against all odds, his father’s hidden treasures persevered.

Seventy packages were secreted away in the attic, carefully tapped to the panel boards with a small hammer. Each one of them emitted the same sound as Schlattner located and retrieved them. His father had ingeniously created a system using a string to detach the boards, making the treasure hunt an adventurous experience.

To Schlattner’s delight, these packages unveiled a fascinating assortment of items. Some were wrapped in the nostalgic embrace of brown paper, while others stood bare, adorned only by time. Among the treasures were hats, clothes hangers, newspapers, paintings, and even skis. But the surprises didn’t end there.

Umbrellas, paperweights, pens, school tables, unopened packets of cigarettes, badges, books, socks, and sewing kits – an eclectic assemblage of objects unfolded before Schlattner’s eyes. And to his amazement, they were not mere relics of the past; they were in excellent working condition.

Recognizing the historical value of these treasures, they will find a new home in a museum in the Czech town of Usti nad Labem. “The packages were expertly concealed in the vault of a skylight,” added Okura, the museum manager who carefully assessed the collection. The discovery of such “German property” hidden in the region is an incredibly rare occurrence.

While Schlattner had hoped to keep these cherished possessions, he has accepted the reality that they will be shared with the world. He has graciously agreed to assist in identifying these treasures, ensuring that their stories are brought to light.

As we marvel at this extraordinary tale of rediscovery, let us share it with others who appreciate the wonder and significance of reclaiming lost family treasures. The recovery of these hidden possessions truly is incredible!
