Tragic Incident in Texas: Father Fatally Struck by Lightning, Young Son Gravely Injured

In a heart-wrenching incident, Matthew Boggs, 34, from Valley Mills, Texas, lost his life while walking home from a bus stop with his two sons. The unfortunate event occurred when lightning suddenly descended from the sky, as recounted by a family member who started a GoFundMe campaign to support the family.

Matthew’s six-year-old son, Grayson, was holding his father’s hand when the lightning struck, as shared on the fundraising page and confirmed in Matthew’s obituary. Angela Boggs, Matthew’s mother, revealed that in their final moments together, Matthew lovingly expressed his affection for Grayson, saying, “I love you, buddy.” It was at that moment that the lightning struck.

Upon the arrival of first responders at the scene, both Matthew and Grayson were unresponsive. Grayson, though alive but in a critical state, was rushed to a local hospital, while Matthew was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Grayson is currently fighting for his life at the Baylor Scott & White McLane Children’s Medical Center in Temple, where he was admitted following the incident. According to updates on the GoFundMe page and reports from KWTX, Grayson experienced multiple seizures and required a ventilator for breathing support.

An MRI conducted on Thursday revealed damage to his frontal lobe and optic nerve, adding to the uncertainty of his recovery. The family remains hopeful, relying on their faith and believing that God is working to heal their beloved boy.

Matthew, described as a devoted member of the Bosque County Cowboy Church who cherished moments with his family, had a passion for music and enjoyed singing whenever he had the chance.

His obituary assured that Matthew’s soul is now harmonizing with the angels. A funeral service will be held on Saturday at Bosque County Cowboy Church, while another service is planned for a later time in Indianapolis, Matthew’s hometown.
