Keith Urban, the celebrated country star, recently opened up about the transformative impact his wife, Nicole Kidman, has had on his life and priorities. In an interview, Urban, 54, shared insights into his battle with addiction, how his goals have evolved, and the profound influence of family.

During the early stages of his career, Urban faced the challenges of addiction, leading him to seek rehabilitation multiple times. The most pivotal moment came just months after his marriage to Kidman in 2006 when he turned down an invitation to a party, saying, “I’d like to stay married.” This decision marked a significant turning point in his life.

Reflecting on this, Urban shared, “I used to evaluate my choices based on whether the momentary pleasure was worth the potential problems it might cause.” He continued, “Most of the time, I would decide it was worth it, even though it would lead to issues.”

He further added, “I would think, ‘I know this might happen, but it’ll be a blast.’ The nighttime version of me often clashed with the daytime version. However, come morning, Night-Time Me was nowhere to be found, and he wasn’t accountable for his actions.”

Nevertheless, Urban’s focus in recent years has shifted primarily to his two children, Sunday, 13, and Faith, 11. He acknowledges that life has transformed significantly, saying, “These days, life is very different. I strive to set a positive example for my kids, although I’m uncertain if I’m always getting it right.”

“I’ve made my fair share of mistakes, but it’s crucial for each individual to find what works for them,” shared the talented artist known for hits like “The Fighter.”

He continued, “What I emphasize to my children is that success comes through hard work, regardless of the path they choose. Nicole and I have worked diligently together; it often felt like I was climbing the ladder of success twice.” Urban reflected on his journey, stating, “First, I had to establish myself in the Australian club scene to secure a record deal. Then, when I moved to the US, I had to start from scratch all over again.”

Grateful for the second chance he received, Urban expressed his appreciation, stating, “I’m incredibly fortunate that things worked out the second time around.”

In a previous interview with The Times, Urban spoke candidly about growing up in a household where his father struggled with alcoholism. It took him a long time to confront the possibility that he may be wired similarly.

Though Urban doesn’t delve into this topic frequently, he believes it’s essential for people to relax and enjoy themselves. He remarked, “‘My thing’ is not about drugs or alcohol. Everyone has their own way of having a good time. I recently discovered that I’m allergic to it.” Responding humorously to a question, Urban shared, “Do you have an allergy? What happens when you drink? I break out in handcuffs!”

On a lighter note, Kidman’s support for Urban was evident as he shared that she flew to Los Angeles to be with him at the 2022 Oscars, where she received a nomination for her role in “Being the Ricardos”. Despite his Las Vegas performance the previous night, Urban joined her, demonstrating their unwavering commitment to one another.

“I’m thrilled to be here,” Kidman expressed sincerely during an interview with E!’s Live from the Red Carpet in March. She further shared, “I’m so happy to be here with my husband. He performed in Vegas last night, flew in, and landed at 1 a.m. Say ‘Whatever it takes,’ right?”
