We all have the utmost respect for our military men and women who selflessly serve our nation, ensuring our freedom. We honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in various ways, from memorial services to monuments, or simply expressing our heartfelt gratitude.

However, it is important to remember that many veterans who are still with us today face financial struggles. It warms our hearts to hear stories of ordinary people stepping in to lend a helping hand to these deserving individuals. These acts of kindness restore our faith in humanity.

Meet Larry Robeson, a Vietnam veteran who has experienced financial difficulties. Like many veterans, he struggled to find his footing when he returned home from the war. But fate had something extraordinary in store for him when he crossed paths with the Fox 5 Surprise Squad in a grocery store in Las Vegas.

Despite his own financial constraints, Larry did not hesitate to help his friend Stephanie, who is disabled and also struggling to make ends meet. Larry took her to the store so they could purchase the essential items they needed. Stephanie, with only $50 left, was unsure about what the future held for her.

It was in that very store that Dave Hall, the reporter leading the Surprise Squad, came to their aid. He assured Stephanie that his team would take care of her groceries. As Hall glanced behind Stephanie, he noticed Larry, a longtime friend of Stephanie’s husband. What he soon discovered was that Larry had founded the “Bones for Blankets” club many years ago.

The mission of Larry’s club is to provide blankets to homeless veterans who find themselves abandoned on the streets after their service to the country. He started this club after three veterans tragically froze to death due to freezing weather conditions.

At that moment, not only was Larry providing support to Stephanie, but he was also serving as a lifeline to other homeless veterans. Stephanie’s husband, being a truck driver, was often away from home, leaving her in dire circumstances. Larry firmly believes that no veteran should ever have to face the challenges that Stephanie endures on a daily basis.

Moved and inspired by what he had discovered about Larry and Stephanie, Hall made sure that Larry would not leave the store without his own groceries being taken care of. Larry had only intended to purchase dish soap and a candy, but Hall insisted on providing him with everything he needed, including an abundance of food.

“You served us. It’s our turn to serve you now,” Hall told Larry.

With a total bill of $278, Larry could hardly hold back his tears as Dave and the rest of the team settled his payment. Overwhelmed by this incredible act of kindness, Larry remarked, “This is just overwhelming. I’ve been taking care of myself since I was 13.”
