She used a common home item that caused her to lose her legs, and now she uses her experience to warn other ladies.

Lauren Wasser, a Californian, is sharing her life experience in an effort to stop other women from going through the same ordeal she had, which was brought on by a common product.

This model visited the hospital in 2012 as a result of persistent flu-like symptoms. Sadly, after conducting testing, doctors discovered that Lauren’s discomfort wasn’t caused by the flu but rather toxic shock syndrome brought on by bacterial toxins.

It was discovered that a tampon was the root of the infection. Tampons can result in this infection, which results in toxic shock syndrome (TTS), if used for a prolonged period of time.

Sadly, Lauren spent more than a week in a coma, and when she finally came out of it, the infection required that her leg be amputated. She was only 24 years old at the time.

Lauren has made it her mission to spread awareness and fight Kotex Natural Balance, the manufacturer of the tampons that so severely triggered her reaction, ever since this unfortunate incident.

My other leg will unavoidably be amputated in a few months. Nothing I can do will change it. However, I can do something to prevent this from happening to others, Lauren told The Daily Mail.

The vagina is the most absorbent portion of a woman’s body and a doorway to many of our key organs, so it’s important for customers to understand the potential risks, she writes in InStyle.

After the second amputation, Amy Purdy, a paralympic athlete who also had her legs amputated, posed with Lauren.

We support Lauren because she aspires to live life to the fullest despite the hardships and suffering she has had to endure.
