The sons of Princess Diana expressed their support for the most recent group of young activists.

In honor of their late mother Princess Diana, Prince William and Prince Harry are working together for a good cause.

The princes featured in two different videos on Friday for the annual Diana Award, which recognizes young global changemakers. The awards honored 189 young individuals from 31 different nations, and William helped kick off the yearly celebration as Harry presented a group of recipients.

Hannah Hodgson, a former recipient of the Diana Award Legacy Award who met Prince William two years ago, introduced the 41-year-old prince before he began speaking. She and the other young people received appreciation from the Prince of Wales for the “challenges they have overcome” to get here. Their courage, compassion, and unwavering commitment to bettering the lives of others, he remarked, are what bind them together. “Today, we acknowledge the strength of all young people — the strength to question the status quo, to speak out against injustice, and to ignite significant change.”

“I would like to express my heartfelt congratulations to all of the prize winners. Your successes are proof of your drive and dedication to bringing about great change, he added. “Everyone finds inspiration in you. And everyone watching these stories should be reminded of the significance of institutions like The Diana Award. It serves as a reminder that investing in young people and giving them the resources and chances to make a difference can actually alter the world.

“A conviction my mother and I both have, and one that I’m pleased to uphold in her honor. I would like to express my heartfelt congratulations to all of the prize recipients. Your successes are evidence of your drive and dedication to bringing about change. You are the torchbearers of inspiration and hope, illuminating the path for others to take, William continued.

In a video appearance that aired around halfway through the hour-long event, Harry, 38, also spoke about his late mother on the night of her birthday.

“When someone offers to help, they automatically become a part of this group. Nobody ever acts as a change agent by themselves. The Duke of Sussex added, “Each of us has the power to contribute to the development of a more just world. “The outstanding Award winners we are celebrating tonight are evidence of that. They serve as an example of the idea that change is possible when we speak up.

“As we gather together, I’m reminded of how strongly my mother believed in the capacity of youth to develop. She understood their special capacity to oppose the current quo and work for a more compassionate and inclusive society,” he concluded.

“Her legacy continues to motivate and provide guidance for navigating the complexity of our modern environment. Young people, and obviously their futures, are disproportionately affected by the various difficulties we confront. The challenges can occasionally appear insurmountable, whether they pertain to structural inequalities, mental health, or climate change. But the strength in the variety of views and opinions that it encompasses—the power we collectively have when we work together—is what gives me optimism, Harry remarked.

Earlier this month, Tessy Ojo, the CEO of the nonprofit, and Harry attended a Conversation for Change gathering in Los Angeles with a group of young people. This summit was hosted by the Diana Award for the first time outside of the United Kingdom. The gatherings are intended to unite young people around a significant social issue. The Duke of Sussex presented four of the 2018 Diana Award winners with their diplomas before to the discussion in Los Angeles.

Both princes are participating in today’s event, according to Ojo, who tells PEOPLE that they wish to follow in their mother’s footsteps. We are incredibly appreciative and fortunate to still have both of their support in helping young people on a personal basis. They are aware of the young people’s enthusiasm for social change.

“And I know that they are committed to this charity even when we can’t see them on TVs, when we can’t shout it from the rooftops, and when there isn’t a presence. It’s always an honor to occasionally share a little of that with the world.

The class of this year, according to Ojo, “aren’t hesitant to confront huge, major challenges. There were lots of adorable projects when we initially established the Diana Award. There were many pretty, adorable crafts, many of them were regional. In this generation, young people are increasingly taking on massive systemic problems that maybe governments are still attempting to solve.

“The award is as much about fostering the awardees’ continued work as it is about assisting us in fostering these young people. We wish to assist them. We want to make their efforts more noticeable. The executive states that we aim to improve their abilities so they can make a bigger contribution to their community.

“That’s what motivates us—making sure that mental health is addressed and that people know how to get off the treadmill when necessary. Beyond just giving them the prize, we help the youth. In order to ensure that we are providing them with the means and materials and that they are increasing their ability to make a bigger effect. They are battling for a more just society, not for themselves.
