According to a family member of Juniper Ammons, 4, who was slain, they were struck while using the crosswalk to cross the road.
Five children were hurt on Wednesday when a truck hit them as they crossed a street in California.

The kids were in Pollock Pines just after 10:30 a.m. local time when they were struck by a passing van, according to ABC network KXTV and CBS affiliate KOVR.
“The teachers were taking the students on a field trip to the park across the street. In a statement posted to a GoFundMe page created by 4-year-old Juniper Ammons, one of the pupils, he claimed that they were struck by a van as they crossed the street in the crosswalk.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP), according to KOVR and NBC affiliate KCRA-TV, stated that three of the children had serious injuries as a consequence of the collision, while two others only sustained minor ones.
The van’s driver, a 21-year-old man, reportedly remained on the scene and assisted the police following the crash, according to KXTV and KCRA-TV.

The report states that a kid and a girl were sent to the UC Davis Medical Center for treatment after suffering serious injuries.
According to reports, a youngster who sustained severe injuries in the third incident was sent to Sutter Roseville Medical Center. The other two victims, a girl and a kid, were taken to Marshall Medical Center to be treated for minor injuries.

The children’s school, Pine Top Montessori, released a statement to families after the incident.

“All of our families are in our prayers, and we wish for a speedy recovery for them. We continue to be in close contact with the necessary authorities and parents to handle the matter, the school reportedly told KXTV.

Juniper, a 4-year-old, is one of the critically injured, according to KXTV.
The child sustained “significant head trauma” in the crash, according to aunt Jillian Leach, who wrote a comment on the GoFundMe page, which has already raised more than $53,000 in less than 48 hours. The tiny child was “placed on a ventilator,” she said.
The parents of Juniper, Catie and Trevor, “have been by her bedside with her since she arrived,” Jillian remarked. “They are living out their worst nightmare right now.”

In an interview with KXTV that aired on Thursday, Aunt Allison Warren said that Juniper’s status was stable.

The publication quoted Warren as saying, “Right now, that’s all we can ask for.” They are closely monitoring her at all times.
She went on to say that the 4-year-old is a “ray of sunshine” who “lights up a room.”
We laugh as we make fun of her for having such an old spirit. After hearing what she says, you wonder how a four-year-old could have uttered it. Warren claims that the youngster has “the largest heart ever.”

The El Dorado Community Foundation is also accepting donations for the accident victims on Wednesday through its Community Resource Fund.
“We know that no amount of money can fix the damage that was done,” the charity stated on its website, “but we can help to lessen the financial burdens of the families involved.”
Authorities initially said they did not believe that drugs, alcohol, or driving too fast were factors in the incident but were looking into whether distracted driving was a play, according to KCRA-TV.

An investigation is still ongoing. When PEOPLE asked the CHP for comment, they did not react right away.
